Global Technologies Racing (GTR) is showcasing their specialist expertise in using bespoke design and composite materials to meet the demanding seating requirements of high-performance motorsport, supercars, luxury super yachts, aerospace and defence. In total, GTR has worked on over 50 different performance seating products across a wide spread of sectors to meet a variety of specialist requirements.

GTR has a long history and rich pedigree of designing, manufacturing and rapidly delivering the highest possible quality precision components for the top echelons of motorsport and continues today to supply critical components to those at the front of the grid.   What’s less well known is that over many years GTR has also applied their vast experience, engineering acumen and innovative designs to a wide range of other specialist products across multiple demanding sectors.  With over 300 highly skilled staff on-site, GTR’s production facilities includes ten in-house autoclaves ranging in sizes up to 3m in diameter and 5.5m in length. This allows GTR to handle both micro components and larger, up to vehicle sized, assemblies.

GTR is probably best known in the motorsport industry for working with the best race teams in the world and for many years GTR produced one of the lightest racing seats on the GT grid.   They are also renowned for their unique inputs to high performance cars and supercars.   Most recently, they designed and manufactured the unique seats for Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) to be fitted to their incredible UK-built exclusive and beautiful supercar.  This stunning seating system is a visual delight with fully bonded inner and outer skins connected with a herring bone centreline.  Each seat involves over 80 hours of hand-crafted labour with 9 layers of high strength carbon composite to minimise weight, meet all safety regulations but also reveal the aesthetic delight of using carbon.

Such attention to detail and unique designs has captured the imagination of other high-performance sectors and so GTR has also been intimately involved in the design and manufacture of exquisite super yacht furniture.   The brief was for a unique style of seating that was a sophisticated mix of carbon, polished stainless steel and oiled teak, with as close to seamless joints as physically possible.   The GTR engineering team produced a fabulous range of deck and interior furniture all with stylish and beautifully machined hinges and locking mechanisms.  It is this rigorous pursuit of engineering perfection and ultimate quality assurance that stands GTR apart from other composite manufacturers.

In the defence and security space, GTR Composites has delivered over 8 years of support to Martin Baker for their global range of ejection seating products. An integral member of Martin Baker’s supply chain, GTR Composites has been assisting in modifying their legacy composites component portfolio. This has been achieved through a substantial amount of research, design, development and manufacturing including utilisation of the modern suite of materials provided by SHD Composites Materials. Over the period, Martin Baker has placed a significant number of high value orders with GTR Composites that have seen the delivery of over 6000 individual composite parts for close to 20 different ejection seating design variants for their customers all over the world.

Simon Kingdon-Butcher, Co-founder, Owner and Director at GTR said: “I love what the GTR team is capable of delivering when a customer requests the highest possible specification and engineering requirements.  Our various seating solutions across all sectors we operate in is just a snapshot of what we can achieve when given the opportunity.”
